Great Way to Start the Morning

The Stubborn Season, published by Harper Collins Canada

The Stubborn Season, published by Harper Collins Canada

Because I am a little neurotic and insecure and oscillate between wanting to be left alone to write and wanting people to remember I exist — in short, you know, a WRITER — I have a Google alert set up.  Sometimes it brings me wonderful things, as it did this morning when I was alerted to a truly splendid review by Nikki Brewer of my first novel, THE STUBBORN SEASON, and you can read it by clicking here.

I’m often asked which of my books I like best. An impossible question, of course, since I love ALL my children, but let’s face it, one often has a soft spot for one’s first. Nice when someone else says the kid’s smart and talented. 😉

I’m grateful to Nikki for taking the time to read the book and write such an insightful review.

Wow, great review….I loved Our Daily Bread, and look forward to reading The Stubborn Season.

This is one of the best written reviews I’ve come across in a long time. Compliments to Nikki Brewer for being so insightful. She expresses herslef in such an eloquent manner. And kudos to you for writing such a fabulous novel.

Thanks so much, Barbara. In all honesty, even if Ms. Brewer hadn’t been writing about my book I would have been impressed. In fact, you’ve given me the idea to recommend her to Truthdig.com, for whom I write reviews. I think they’d love her.

And thank YOU so much, Ms. Davis, for reading my review and taking the time not just to comment on it, but to write a post about it. I couldn’t believe it when I saw you’d commented. (It’s certainly never happened before!) I’m really looking forward to reading more of your books!

You’re very kind, Nikki — as I said to get a review for a book published years ago — well, it does a writer’s heart good. And I was very impressed by the quality of the review (aside from the fact you liked the book!) I have recommended you as a review to Truthdig.com, where I write reviews. The editor’s name is Eunice Wong and she may be in touch with you. Hope so. Keep me posted and thanks again.

I’m trying to think of a new way to say “Thank you so much,” but can’t, so I’ll just say thank you so much again. I’ve been writing these “reviews” for so long for no other reason than that I love it and to be not just acknowledged but praised by a talented, established author such as yourself is absolutely unreal. I really appreciate the recommendation. Thank you again.

You’re welcome, Nikki. With the Globe & Mail announcing they will be slashing the Books section, readers (and writers) will depend on people like you — who write thoughtful and in-depth reviews — even more. Keep writing!

      Thanks Barbara!

I can’t believe Ms. Davis mentioned me here! I couldn’t figure out why suddenly my website was getting so much traffic, but this explains it. I was only too happy to write the review–I had a lot of fun reading the novel, and then a lot of fun writing about it. I’m glad I got to share my enthusiasm for it.
