Writing Workshop in Toronto

I’m giving a writing workshop in Toronto on May 28th, exclusively for fans of HarperCollins Canada’s Facebook Page. To be part of it, click on the link and see the details.  You have to ‘like’ the page and send HarperCollins Canada an email saying why you wish to be part of the workshop.  Hope you can join us!

Here’s what we’ll be doing:  “THE FOUNDATIONS OF GOOD WRITING: YEARNING AND SIGNIFICANT DETAILS” —  We’ll learn how to ensure readers care about the characters in our work, and explore the ways a writer creates emotion: significant, concrete details; specificity, memory flashes, physical signals, sensual selectivity, etc. We’ll look at examples, do writing exercises and generate story ideas.  Come prepared to do some writing and have fun!

Maybe you’ll have a chance to come to another workshop one day. It would be lovely to meet you.

Hello Lauren, I read your last novel, Our Daily Bread, and loved it. I can’t wait to read The Empty Room. While I’d like to attend your Toronto workshop, I don’t feel advanced enough yet in my own writing. Is it really open for beginners? thanks, Helen

Hi Helen — I’m so glad you enjoyed OUR DAILY BREAD and hope THE EMPTY ROOM will please you as well. And by all means, the workshop is for everyone! It’s designed to get people started who’ve never written anything more than a letter before, as well as to deepen the techniques of people who’ve been writing for a while. No worries, no competition, nothing be encouragement and a creative time. JOIN US!
