I’ve lost count of how long this pandemic has been going on. But, remembering the words of Raymond Carver, who wrote, “Did you get wanted what you wanted from this life, even so?”, I ask and will keep asking, was this day a miracle, even so?

In spite of everything, I drew a deep breath when I woke up.

I remembered a very funny dream involving Patrick Stewart (he was so mean at first, but then turned out to be merely frightened), even so.

In spite of everything, the eagle flew over the river, looking for fish.

The dog, white fur, pink skin, black nose and eyes, wanted a belly rub, even so.

In spite of everything, the coffee was hot and sweet.

My Best Beloved gives the best hugs, even so.

In spite of everything, the white-tailed deer sauntered past the house, stately and entitled.

And a vase of hellebore from the garden delights me, even so.

I’m going to try to keep posting these things….. whatever they are. And I would love it if you shared with me your ‘even sos’ and your ‘in spite ofs’ too.

Surely we should keep connected to all-that-is, in spite of everything.

Stay safe and well, beloveds.

Such a lovely idea, Lauren. Very reassuring to connect “to all-that-is, in spite of everything.”
